I promise I’ll do the hard part
Finally got around to following Leonard’s links to Rachel Chalmers’s blog, and now regret not doing so in 2004. Her blog is the blog other blogs want to be when they grow up. Blog up. Wait, no.
I’m reading backwards through her archives, so most of the content so far has been about her daughters Claire (who appears, from this perspective, to be carefully paring down her vocabulary) and Julia (who has disappeared, then had her name retconned to Zoë, as if in a bad thriller movie). I know blogging is the new selective memory, but they sound like amazing kids. I want kids now, dammit! SOMEBODY HAVE SOME KIDS WITH ME.
Man, it’s not often I can say I wish the things in Achewood were true.
I’m running the first (theoretically) paid ads ever on xorph.com, now. I don’t have any particular moral objection to ads; it just never seemed worth the trouble before. Until Clockers got boingboinged.
As Holly pointed out, I wrote 991 extremely short stories and she wrote 41 stories that interlock in a crossword, and yet the fanfic we did for a bad movie is what starts eating into our fifteen minutes. Internet is really weird.
Internet is weird
I am listening, right now, to the live stream from a Canadian university radio station that is rebroadcasting our giggly high-noise recording of Clockers. At least the DJ (one “Jordie Sparkle”) asked our permission first. Wait, no, I meant “forgiveness, after they started, in the hopes that Clockers was CC-licensed because NFD is.”
Okay! Let’s go to the phones!
Merry Christmas, Ken and Jon
Ever wondered about my mental self-image, as a lifelong Kentuckian landing in London for the first time, back in March? Uncle John provides.
An analogy that other people have probably made a lot already
MySpace:Windows::Facebook:Mac?
It works for user base, cleanliness of interface and general safety, but I’m not sure I like it. I am definitely a Facebook person, yet sitting here next to my iPod typing this on my MacBook, I am still not comfortable identifying as an Apple guy.
“Say hello to Bono and Sandra Day O’Connor!”
All right, I freaking live with The Surrealists, it’s about time I memed it up, right?
Presenting Dr. O’Callaghan’s Scientific Fist Names Generator.
This is all 30 Rock’s fault really, even if they didn’t invent the gag. I love 30 Rock.
Technology That I Totally Predicted GIMME A NEBULA DAMMIT
(Not the first time this has happened, I’m just saying.)
Googlebombing Munson
As of this writing, NFD is the top Google result for Bryan Munson, which means I occasionally get emails from other former students of his wondering where he is now and how to contact him. While I certainly don’t mind that, I learned yesterday that Bryan Munson does in fact have his own site, and has since 2004! Bad Google! Admittedly, most of the content is surreal and discontented blog entries by his classroom doll-mascot, but it still deserves to be the top Munson for Munson Munson.
Anyway, Bryan Munson is currently headed out of Korea at last and on to, er, Saudi Arabia. Are there any other English teachers that adventurous? Is there Bryan Munson fanfiction yet?
Get a Facebook too, Bryan Munson.
