Featuring four bathrooms, it was meant undoubtedly to be a showcase for indoor plumbing. Fast forward to 2007, and now we face dealing with four sets of 85-year-old pipes, valves, and fixtures. Although we both detest it, Bruce has more patience when it comes to tackling this sort of thing than I do. \u201cKicking and screaming\u201d barely does justice to my attitude. <\/p>\n<p>Plumbing for new construction is a trade I can somewhat comprehend. On the other hand, there\u2019s a guy out there who we almost had to call\u2014the kind of guy who would willingly crawl under the sink of a house built when Warren G. Harding was president.<\/p>\n<p>On the Saturday before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>For money.<\/p>\n<p>We all recognize, humorously, that <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.istockphoto.com\/file_thumbview_approve\/3076769\/2\/istockphoto_3076769_plumber_butt.jpg\">there\u2019s a bit of the exhibitionist in most plumbers<\/a>, <em>but what kind of <strong>freakin\u2019 masochist<\/strong> would make his living repairing plumbing in old houses?<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/nfd\/2007\/11\/21\/all-growns-up\/\">Brendan might have used some variant of fuck<\/a><\/a>, but, trust me, I would never allow a word like that to appear in my blog.)<\/p>\n<p>A beautiful basin with a big pitcher of water\u2014not a bad notion of civilized living\u2014until some twisted devil invented threaded pipes and called it progress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dana recently prescribed an in-house faucet replacement, and today was the deadline.
