But I never saw the good side of the city&#8230; until I played Illuminati with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crummy.com\/\" title=\"I think he lost our &quot;no, YOU update first&quot; contest without even knowing it.\">Leonard<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/vitanuova.loyalty.org\/\" title=\"He gave me a t-shirt!\">Seth<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.panix.com\/~zackw\/exbib\/\" title=\"I think this link is maybe kind of dead.\">Zack<\/a> while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocf.berkeley.edu\/~sumanah\/ces.shtml\" title=\"Sumana has already prejudiced Maria against this game!  I'm sorry we bored her, though.\">Sumana<\/a> danced to songs about shell accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Actually I saw several very neat sides of the city, including BART (which beats the tar out of TARC, I&#8217;m afraid, leaving it with one measly C) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/\" title=\"They have a tech support article not written by Sumana?  Blasphemy!\">Salon<\/a> Central.  I missed out on the party at City Hall, but I sure heard a lot about it.  The weather was gorgeous, and I made new friends (Jacob from Alaska is three, and he and I played hide-and-seek from O&#8217;Hare to Louisville).<\/p>\n<p>Recent excursions into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.codypowell.com\/goulash\/\" title=\"This is a real word as of now.\">Powellian<\/a> hyperbole notwithstanding, I had a freaking great time in California, thanks entirely to my kind and generous hosts.  Even though I&#8217;ve been up for about 30 hours trying to grab the tail end of all the work I missed, I don&#8217;t regret a thing, and I can&#8217;t wait to go back.  Maria and I spent a good chunk of yesterday (when I should have been, um, grabbing the aforementioned work-tail) making the first real arrangements for this summer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comic-con.org\/\" title=\"I was going to make a joke about Star Wars fan films here, but I just don't have the heart.\">Calicomicon<\/a> journey.  The Five Lords of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amtrak.com\/trains\/texaseagle.html\" title=\"&quot;From your comfy spot in the Sightseer Lounge, watch the plains turn to pine forests then to cattle country.&quot;  Even the terrain is magic!\">Texas Eagle<\/a> will sow terror and reap, um, comic books!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I cleaned a lot of plates in Berkeley, pumped a lot of pain in the EFF offices.
