Sophie very kindly gave me a guest spot on her amazing newsletter <a href=\"https:\/\/goodenoughjob.substack.com\/p\/10-things-brendan-j\" title=\"Some acronyms have such good mouthfeel.\">YADAGEJ<\/a> today! I admire the community she has built there so much that I am, in mercenary fashion, using this opportunity to backdoor-pilot a long-threatened newsletter of my own. <a href=\"https:\/\/kaijuville.com\/\" title=\"Say hi to Garmegula.\">It is called Kaijuville,<\/a> because I have had that domain for like eighteen years and never did anything with it, so I guess we&#8217;ll see if writing emails holds my attention at least half that long.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kaijuville.com\/\" style=\"display: block; margin: 0 auto;\" class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xorph.com\/nfd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kaijuville-big.gif\" alt=\"An oversized pixel art badge for Kaijuville.\" width=\"528\" height=\"186\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4830\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis blog isn&#8217;t going anywhere, nor are the email notifications from it that go out to exactly one person (hi Brian). But I think it will be nice to have a place to write without the mental history or internalized constraints I have silently applied to nfd over the last quarter-century.<\/p>\n<p>While I&#8217;m talking about emails, I want to recommend a wonderful essay about <a href=\"https:\/\/goodinternetmagazine.com\/why-i-email-complete-strangers\/\" title=\"I like Good Internet Magazine!\">emailing strangers<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/zacharykai.net\/\" title=\"I guess I should also email him, huh.\">Zachary Kai<\/a>. He makes a similar point to what I wanted to convey in <a href=\"\/nfd\/2025\/08\/20\/composition\/\" title=\"In retrospect I should have known I was going to start a newsletter when I wrote this.\">&#8220;Composition&#8221;<\/a> last year, but he brings quite a few more bona fides to his argument!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Or so I keep reminding myself, despite a rapid onset of self-consciousness this morning.
