Sad and Happy Movie Day was great!  In attendance were myself, Maria, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wertle.com\/\" title=\"Man, coming up with all these title tags is going to be tiring.\">Lisa<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/scotto_elbuats\/\" title=\"Scott and Lisa have a way cool apartment.\">Scott<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.argproductions.com\/\" title=\"Will's link is a MYSTERY!\">Will<\/a>; Maria&#8217;s brother Michael showed up for the second movie.  We watched City of God and Shaolin Soccer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/nb\/nb.cgi\/view\/nfd\/2005\/06\/16\/2\" title=\"Not very ancients.\">as was foretold by the ancients<\/a>&#8211;first one subbed, second dubbed, but the dubbing actually worked really well for SS.  It added to the goofiness of a film that takes its goofiness very seriously.  City of God was appropriately poverty-stricken and filled with violence by and against children.  The ending was not actually sad, but maybe that was for the best.  We are still testing our toes in this format.<\/p>\n<p>The next SAHMD will probably be in two or three weeks, whatever&#8217;s best for most of us.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0113243\/\" title=\"&quot;Hackers is laughed at by 'real' computer hackers. Let them laugh.&quot;\">Hackers<\/a> has been pretty thoroughly shot down, because <i>all my friends are worthless Philistines<\/i>, but I don&#8217;t think anybody objected to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0108550\/\" title=\"I have nothing funny to say about What's Eating Gilbert Grape.  Which is promising!\">What&#8217;s Eating Gilbert Grape<\/a>.  Are there any strong objections to that?
