Oh.

Holy shit.

The headline says 20,000, but in the article they keep saying the final count will be 40,000. 40,000. More than the entire population of any of the towns where I grew up.

We’ve promised to send aid. I just hope it’s soon.

Right, Christmas. It was good! The Adkins-Wood Collective borrowed the infamous Deb’s house (she was out of town, and we’re homeless) for the fastest gift-opening we’ve ever had, then left in the afternoon to come to Louisville and have dinner with Joe’s sister Laura. Who I guess is now my aunt? She’d probably be weirded out if I called her that. While there, I met her stepdaughter, who I guess is now my cousin?

Normally I’d make some crack now about the new definition of family units in the new millennium, but to tell the truth, I feel kinda behind. I just got my first step-cousin-in-law, man, everybody else has had theirs for years.

But yeah, the dinner was good and Joe embarrassed Ian and me (but mostly me) at the pool table. I got warm socks, emo hoodies, the first season of Highlander and as many copies of Finding Nemo as I have hands. Mom was at least a little taken in by our we-got-you-DVDs, what-you-don’t-have-a-DVD-player, oh-well-you-get-this-present-too gag, and that was good. In grand Brendanian tradition, I forced Blankets on Ian and Daredevil: Yellow on Caitlan, things with which they seemed cool.

Man, have you heard about Blankets? Just… just google it and read a little. It’s pretty much everything they say.

Oh! People have been posting comments on my LJ feed! I really had no idea, although I’d known it was possible. I guess I’ll have to look at that more often.

The new (well, most recent) version of NewsBruiser has native comment capability, actually, but even when I do get around to upgrading I don’t think I’ll turn it on. It just doesn’t appeal to me. I do like this system, though: anybody who wants can comment, so it’s fun, but they don’t show up on the main page and they disappear twenty-five entries later. Comments are pretty ephemeral in nature–I think Frank Lloyd Wright would approve.

My GPA

3.3333! That’s an exclamation mark, not a factorial sign. Just for accuracy’s sake. I don’t really know how many threes there are supposed to be; that number just looked right.

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear

Voices singing ‘Let’s be jolly’

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

You know, “sentimental feeling” is redundant.

BoxJam’s Doodle is back! I hope this isn’t premature, but BoxJam has always had an excellent work ethic–the only reason his toon has been gone is that he lost his job, and has a family, and wanted to devote all his time and energy to making that situation better. Things seem to be getting better for him, though, which is really good to hear.

I very much hope that some part of the Altbrand crew will be in San Diego next summer–I’d like to meet them, BoxJam included. I think it’d be cool to, when asked “And your last name?” be able to respond “Oh, I’ve just got the one.”

Confessional Search Request: xorph I met a girl

The latter part of that, of course, is the chorus from a wonderful Wheat song, which appears to be catching on quickly, and also to have its complete lyrics posted nowhere on the entire interweb. I guess that’s how my LJ feed somehow got to be the first Google result for “I met a girl I’d like to know better.”

I’d post the lyrics here myself, but I don’t have the liner notes and I don’t really want to do them by ear.

Drove to Urbana, Ohio. Saw paternal family. Paternal family had small babies. Babies were cute. Very happy to see babies. Drove back.

Long drive to Urbana, Ohio. Even when your brother does all the actual driving.

Going to bed now.
