Which, of course, is not true.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014 Jane Piper<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ll be spending more time in the collage studio soon, but I made the most of the warm months to create collage artwork in the open air. Much love and appreciation goes out to my sister, Joan Wood, for hosting a summer plein-air gathering at her wonderful retreat <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/KellyRidge_view4.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">on Kelley Ridge in Garrard County, Kentucky<\/a>. Since I was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/?s=PAACK\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">PAACK<\/a> coordinator for the outing, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/JAD@KR_byMingus_2020.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/JAD@KR_byMingus_2020.jpg\" title=\"My thanks to John \u201cMingus\u201d Harris for the image of me with my nose to the paste zone, as I attempt to capture \u2018Cardinal Haven\u2019 with scraps of discarded paper.\" width=\"181\" height=\"220\" \/ hspace=\"19\" vspace=19\" align=right \/><\/a>I decided to set up in a central spot to help me avoid overlooking any of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/PatW_onTop_2020.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">our intrepid participants<\/a>. The turnout was great, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Dixon_Grasshopper.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">and I had at least one visitor that I wasn\u2019t expecting<\/a>. A house portrait demands a certain density and exactitude. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Dixon_HavenOnTheRidge_start.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">I left with a good start<\/a>, but it fell short of the hoped-for level of detail, so I challenged myself to bring it around with an expenditure of studio time equal to what I devoted to the outdoor session.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xorph.com\/jadixon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/KellyRidge_dwelling1.jpg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Cardinal Haven<\/em><\/a> is the name that our mother, Virginia, came up with for Joan\u2019s isolated abode (which spurred the title of this featured miniature).
