I am waiting for something to go wrong
Yesterday I received my single largest shipment of computer parts, in a box that sagged like a full diaper. I’m lucky I got it up to the apartment without dumping foam peanuts and expensive electronic equipment into the elevator.
Yesterday was also the day of the first few problems: I apparently ordered one of my HDs wrong (one of the 80gbs is SATA, the other Ultra ATA, and I need both to be the former), and the site from which I ordered my processor informed me (five days after said order) that they were sold out and wouldn’t have more until October. I canceled that and reordered from another site; I’ll return the HD, and I’ve ordered the correct one already. This will be the first time I’ve returned anything to an online store, so that ought to be fun.
Today my last three big shipments from Newegg should show up, including The Monitor That Ate Brooklyn. Then it’s just a matter of waiting on the new HD and the CPU, and hopefully I can get all the wiring and install Windows on Saturday (hey, Evan, want to come over on Saturday?). I already screwed the drives into their cages, although I haven’t installed the motherboard yet, obviously. It looks neat! Even Maria likes it, and she’s been putting up with this whole process with the long-suffering patience of a saint who has been hung upside down for the past ten years, and also has poison ivy.*
* Maria does not have poison ivy.
