One of the reasons I’m enjoying NewsBruiser so much is because you can categorize things pretty endlessly. When I first noticed it as a feature at Crummy, I thought it was interesting, but that I had no need for such a feature. I obviously had not met me. I think one of the reasons I went and got a degree in computer science is because you get to do so many kinds of sorts, and sorting things fills a deep and profound need in Brendan’s chest cavity.

So maybe I spent an hour’s worth of five-minute spots toward the end of work today making new categories and plopping entries into them. I was guilt-ridden about it, if that helps. I have to do it sometime! Otherwise how would you know precisely when I’m angsting?

A Christmas Carol

Christmas is coming; the goose is getting fat

Please to put a penny in the old man’s hat;

If you haven’t got a penny then a haypenny will do;

If you haven’t got a haypenny then God bless you!

We would sing this song, when we were little, and then claim we were blessed because we did not actually have any haypennies; we used a currency system in which they were outdated and unnecessary. In fact, we had significantly more money than a haypenny, yet we qualified for a blessing intended for the poor. It’s a loophole.

The Same Christmas Carol, Written by a (Socially Conscious) Programmer

Christmas is coming; the goose is getting fat;

Please to put a penny in the old man’s hat;

IF you have less than one penny THEN we will accept one haypenny;

IF you have less than one haypenny THEN God bless you;
