So my new internship…

Monday, July 24th, 2006

A million times better than the last. I love the people I’m working with. They’re more like a community, and they actually give me work to do. I mean, I’m not crazy busy all the time, but it’s good. There are two other interns, although they’ll be leaving in a little over a week, which makes me sad because I really like both of them. One applied for a full-time job, but she doesn’t think she’ll get it, or at least they won’t decide on hiring someone before she has to find a job.

Today, Beth - one of the other interns - and I learned how to make coffee. Whenever someone comes in for an interview or meeting or something, we ask them if they would like something to drink. This one guy today asked for coffee. So Beth and I went into the kitchen. He had already been waiting a while because we couldn’t get a hold of the person he was supposed to meet with and they were out of the office. So there were two coffeemakers and two cans of coffee, one decaf and one regular. But both coffeemakers had coffee in them. Neither Beth nor I drink coffee. So we contemplate microwaving it to speed things up because we didn’t want the guy to have to wait. As it’s in the microwave, David, a full-time guy comes in and says, “You can’t microwave coffee.” So he shows us how to make coffee, and we brought it into the guy with cream and sugar on the side. I used to make coffee for my mom all the time, but now she doesn’t drink it much, so I’ve completely forgotten how.

By the way, that’s not what I spend most of my time doing. The other interns and I are actually finishing work on a proposal for a new client. Exciting!!

Anonymous Donors

I got a letter from Regent’s in the mail today:

Dear Caitlan

Coming to Regent’s in 2006

I am very pleased indeed that you are due back at Regent’s in the autumn (what you would call the Fall). It was a great pleasure having you here as a visiting student and look forward to you being here as an Undergraduate (albeit a second BA programme).

The reason for writing is that I have some very good news for you! We have received a contribution of $1,000.00 towards the expenses that you will incur while at Regent’s. This has been given by an anonymous donor who is very keen to see you succeed when you come to Regent’s this year. So I am very pleased to notify you about this.

At today’s exchange rate it works out probably around £550, but the precise amount can be worked out in due course.

With all good wishes as you make preparations for coming this year.

D A Harper

Bursar

I don’t know who to thank or how to show my thanks for this, but I thought it was pretty amazing. If whoever you are actually reads my blog, I truly appreciate your kindness.

Celery and peanut butter

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Okay, so my new favorite snack in the world is celery and peanut butter. Everyone should eat it.

And I really have nothing else to say, except that I just finished my last day with the newspaper, and it’s a beautiful day outside!

Almost done

Two days left of my internship, which makes me so happy. Monday, I start the PR internship, and I’m going out to lunch with the intern coordinator, so we can get things figured out for the time that I will be there. I’m so excited. My weekends go by quickly, but my weeks are so slow while I am here. I’m bored during the day and now that I’ve finished Harry Potter, I can’t find books that are as good, or I have them and then leave them at home. I hope this internship makes the time pass more quickly, just until Kyle gets home. Then it can go very slow until I have to leave for England. I’ve talked to Kyle a couple of times and we’ve been e-mailing. I really have no life because there is nothing to write about on here.

Last week I hung out with Lindsey and she made me dinner, which was very yummy. We watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith too. I also went to Campbellsville and hung out with family and went up to Louisville to eat with Brendan and Monica and friends at the Mayan Gypsy, to go before it closed. All that was done in reverse order that I talked about it though.

For the 4th I went with Kim and Lee to the Mayor’s party and had good seats to watch the fireworks at Gibson Bay. I’ve never seen the fireworks there in all the time I’ve been in Richmond because we always went to celebrate with family, but my mom had to work and having the 4th on a weekday didn’t help much with trying to do that this year, except that I got off work. So really that’s all that has happened to me since I wrote last. Oh Ian came home for like a second and then flew to New York, so he’s no longer living in California, but the Big Apple, and Brendan might be there soon too because he quit his job to do web design full-time in his pajamas for a Manhattan company. Crazy boys. I’m just keeping busy with reading, trying to find money for Oxford, and sleeping. Okay so maybe I’m crazy too.
